Guernsey’s oldest musical instrument, the Chifournie, dates back to the 10th century. Its popular melodies across the Channel Islands had disappeared from Guernsey by the mid-nineteenth century.
Musician Clare Salaman plays old Guernesiaise folk music on the Hurdy Gurdy, the modern day version of the Chifournie.
Traditional tunes ‘Doublle la Violaette’ and ‘Dansai donc’ provided by Andrew Lawrence-King and arranged by Clare Salaman.
Filmed in Guernsey at le Mont Saint Barn.
